Season Six - Summer 2016
Session 1: PBS Documentary Series - DNA: The Secret of Life
When: Thursday 1pm, 19th May
Where: The Allegro Cafe
A science documentary series telling a brief history of DNA science. The documentary consists of five episodes: The Secret of Life; Playing God; The Human Race; Curing Cancer; and Pandora's Box. The first episode explores the story about scientists took part in a race to discover the double helix structure of DNA. The second tells about frontiers of genetic engineering, a controversy about the dangers of genetic manipulation and the birth of the biotech industry. The third is about the Human Genome Project deciphering the complete instruction manual of the human being. In the fourth episode, applications of DNA science for medical treatment are told: curing cancers. Lastly, Jim Watson tells about his views of the future of DNA science and genetic engineering.
